Young Chelsea striker wins award

Chelsea youngster Patrick Bamford has won the Football League’s Young Player of the Month award for December.

The award is for his performances during his final weeks on loan at League One side MK Dons, where his impact led to Chelsea receiving enquiries about him from several Championship clubs.

He was loaned to Derby County for the second half of the season and recently scored the winner against Brighton on his Rams debut.

Bamford, who joined Chelsea from Nottingham Forest in January 2012, scored a total 17 goals in 30 appearances for MK Dons and the Blues were therefore keen for him to be tested at a higher level.
