Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho had no doubts that the last-gasp penalty award which helped the Blues rescue a draw against West Brom was the correct call.
The Baggies were furious about the decision by referee Andre Marriner to give a spot-kick when Ramires tumbled in the box under pressure from Steven Reid.
But Mourinho said: “The penalty comes in a moment where it is difficult for them to accept because they are waiting for the last whistle.
“But a penalty is a penalty in minute one or minute 94 and this was a penalty. From the bench I didn’t know, it was too far. But from the screen, no doubt.”
Baggies boss and Chelsea legend Steve Clarke was convinced it was not a spot-kick, describing the incident as”a bad call”.
However, Mourinho disagreed with his former assistant and also said Chelsea should have been awarded a foul in the build-up to West Brom’s second goal, when Stephane Sessegnon clashed with Branislav Ivanovic.
“It’s a big free-kick, just in front of us and the fourth official,” Mourinho said.
“There the fourth official should participate in the game; it was just in front of him.”
