Upbeat Di Matteo still eyeing top three

Interim Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo believes his team can still finish in the top three despite their defeat at Manchester City.

Wednesday’s loss was their first since the former Blues midfielder was placed at the helm, but they remain in the hunt for Champions League qualification.

A top-four finish is their first priority, but Di Matteo is confident that can go one better.

He said: “Two weeks ago we were seven points behind third place and now we’re six behind, so we need to look at these things.

“We’re going in the right direction and are closer to third than we were 10 days ago. We still have the confidence that we can make it.

“I always said we would like to finish at least fourth and that’s what we will try to do. If we do anything more it’s a bonus.”
