No Silva return yet but Abraham could play despite injury scare
Thiago Silva will not return to action for Chelsea this weekend but Tammy Abraham could be involved despite another injury scare.
Veteran defender Silva has not featured since suffering a thigh injury against Tottenham on February 4.
Chelsea have decided to give him the approaching international break to recover full fitness, so he will not be involved in Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final against Sheffield United.
“Now is not the moment to take the risk for him, in the last game before the international break,” boss Thomas Tuchel explained.
“Now we get a chance with another two weeks. It’s already been too long, but I know how hard the medical team is working, so zero complaints and we’re just wishing for him to feel 100%.
“So we’re taking our time. He will rejoin the group (for training) hopefully during the international break to be ready for the decisive end to the season.”
Abraham, meanwhile, has been nursing an ankle problem and was hurt in training on Friday.
But Tuchel says he is hopeful the problem is not serious and that the striker will be available for selection against the Blades.
The German said: “Tammy was with the group today and we had a little bit of a scary moment. He stumbled again and twisted his ankle.
“It was a painful moment but hopefully not too serious. Right now I really hope that he can be back in the squad for Sunday.”
