Tuchel: Chelsea can still improve

Thomas Tuchel says Chelsea’s counter-attacking and final ball still need to improve.

The Blues are unbeaten since Tuchel took over as boss and secured a Champions League quarter-final place by seeing off Atletico Madrid.

Tuchel was full of praise for his team – but insisted they can get even better.

“We need to improve in counter-attacks, clearly,” he said.

“We need to improve after we win the ball, to be more forward-thinking and use our speed to exploit space.

“We’re looking to be more clinical and have more precise decision-making in counter-attacks.”

Chelsea have been brilliant defensively under the German but have sometimes found the going tough at the other end of the pitch despite having plenty of possession.

“We are still lacking the last pass,” Tuchel admitted.

Tuchel says Chelsea have no reason to fear any team ahead of Friday’s quarter-final draw.

he believes they have shown they will be a match for any of Europe’s top sides.

“We feel that we deserve this. Results like this give you a certain edge,” Tuchel said.

“We are in this draw and I’m pretty sure no one wants to play against us.

“This will be a super-difficult challenge, of course, because we are in the last eight, which is a big step.

“But on we go and there is no need to be afraid. We’ll take what we get and we’ll prepare the best way possible.”
