Fernando Torres is set to return to the Chelsea side for Wednesday’s Champions League match against Genk, but Ramires has been ruled out.
Ramires has been forced to miss the Group E game at Stamford Bridge after picking up a knee injury during the 3-1 win against Everton in which he scored the Blues’ third goal.
And the in-form midfielder’s chances of returning for Sunday’s west London derby at QPR are rated at 50-50.
David Luiz is expected to play against Genk having been rested for the Everton match while Torres, who has been serving a domestic ban, is also likely to be involved.
Torres looks certain to start in place of Didier Drogba, with manager Andre Villas-Boas keen for the Spaniard’s fitness to be maintained during his enforced lay-off from Premier League action.
“If we don’t decide on him, he will be a long time out of the game,” Villas-Boas said.
