Terry the best of his generation – Jose
John Terry is the best Premier League centre-back of his generation, according to Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.
The 34-year-old Blues captain was outstanding as Mourinho’s side earned a point away against Arsenal on Sunday – a result that means six points from the remaining five games will guarantee the title.
Former England skipper Terry has been a major influence this season, starting every one of the 33 league matches.
“I don’t like to compare generations. It is very unfair,” Mourinho said.
“In this generation I think he is the best centre-back. So many caps, so many battles, an amazing number of matches, and a good goalscorer.
“The two seasons previous to my arrival he was not an important player. He was on the bench. People were anticipating his departure.
“Last season was good for him. This season he is better.
“I am happy with everything he is doing. Maybe it was too much to say against Arsenal was the best performance but, for sure, Arsenal was one of his best performances for Chelsea.
“He was phenomenal; not one foul, not one mistake. It was clean.”
