John Terry has suffered a setback in his bid to fully recover from a knee problem.
The Chelsea captain recently returned to action following two months on the sidelines, but inflammation around the affected knee has ruled him out of Saturday’s game against Wigan.
Interim manager Rafael Benitez is hopeful Terry will be available for next week’s Europa League clash with Sparta Prague.
Benitez said: “It’s a setback. It’s not serious but he will not be available for tomorrow.”
On a brighter note for the Blues, David Luiz and goalkeeper Petr Cech have been passed fit following calf and finger injuries respectively.
Demba Ba is also expected to feature against Wigan despite taking a boot in the face during last weekend’s defeat against the striker’s former club Newcastle.
Meanwhile, Eden Hazard is back in the squad following his suspension.
