Terry plays as Chelsea demolish Wolves

Chelsea 6 Wolves 0

John Terry played for Chelsea just hours after appearing at his disciplinary hearing – and led them to a rampant victory in the Capital One Cup third round.

The skipper announced his international retirement on Sunday – the eve of the hearing into his alleged racist abuse of QPR’s Anton Ferdinand, which is set to go into a third day on Wednesday.

Torres got Chelsea’s fifth.

Terry was therefore not expected to feature against Wolves but instead was one of seven changes to the side that overcame Stoke City at the weekend.

And his team raced into a 3-0 lead inside 17 minutes, with Gary Cahill, Ryan Bertrand and Juan Mata netting early goals.

Oriol Romeu got the fourth from the penalty spot before Fernando Torres netted the fifth and Victor Moses completed the rout with his first goal for the Blues.

Cahill put Chelsea in front on four minutes when he climbed on the shoulders of Richard Stearman and headed in Mata’s free-kick.

The impressive Bertrand, in for the rested Ashley Cole, curled home the second four minutes later.

Mata then exchanged passes with Torres and slotted coolly under goalkeeper Dorus de Vries to put Roberto Di Matteo’s men in total control.

In an equally one-sided second half, Romeu bagged his first Chelsea goal when he converted from the spot after Moses was brought down by De Vries in the six-yard box.

Torres headed in a Moses corner to get on the scoresheet before Oscar set up Moses for a simple header.

Also making their Blues debuts were Spain right-back Cesar Azpilicueta and 18-year-old Brazilian Lucas Piazon.

Summer signing Marko Marin came off the bench to make his first competitive appearance for the club.

Subs not used: Hilario, Luiz, Ferreira, Mikel.
