Injured Chelsea duo to undergo scans

John Terry looks like being unavailable for the Europa League final after suffering an ankle injury during Chelsea’s 2-1 win at Aston Villa.

And Eden Hazard could also be a doubt for the clash with Benfica in Amsterdam after picking up a hamstring strain during the same game.

Skipper Terry, who was out for more than two months with a knee problem earlier in the season, was stretchered off with 15 minutes remaining a Villa Park.

He missed last year’s Champions League triumph against Bayern Munich through suspension.

Interim manager Rafael Benitez said: “John Terry twisted his ankle so we are waiting for a scan. We don’t know how serious it could be.

“Hazard also felt something in his hamstring and again we are waiting for a scan. It’s a pity before the final but at least we won.”

On a much brighter note for the Blues, Frank Lampard’s brace broke Chelsea’s all-time scoring record and effectively sealed their Champions League place.

It took Lampard’s goal tally to 203 – one more than Stamford Bridge legend Bobby Tambling.

“It is a fantastic achievement and I am really pleased for him, especially as we won,” said Benitez.

“It’s amazing he has scored the number of goals he has. Hopefully he can score more in the next two games.

“It was a good game in the end. To get three points in the circumstances was a massive achievement.

“I am really pleased. That was the target; to finish in the top four.”
