John Terry has been included in the Chelsea squad for Saturday’s game at Stoke, where goalkeeper Petr Cech could feature.
Terry, sidelined for two months with a knee injury, has been passed fit after coming through an Under-21 match against Fulham on Thursday evening.
And the Blues could be further boosted by a sooner-than-expected return for Cech, who is training again following a groin problem.
“John played yesterday and he is okay. He was training today and is on the list for the squad,” said interim manager Rafael Benitez.
“It’s good news for us. It’s always important to have your captain and someone who has character . I was talking to him and he is fine.”
Cech is likely to travel with the squad and be assessed ahead of the game at the Britannia Stadium to see if he is fit enough to play.
“He has been doing a training session and he may travel. We will check him and see,” Benitez explained.
