Terry could hand Chelsea further boost

Chelsea skipper John Terry could be available for Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final showdown with Atletico Madrid.

Terry suffered an ankle injury during last week’s first leg in Spain and was expected to miss the return match at Stamford Bridge.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho even suggested that the former England centre-back could be sidelined for the rest of the season.

But Mourinho said after his team’s stunning 2-0 win at Liverpool that Terry could yet be involved against the La Liga leaders.

Mourinho hopes to have Terry back

He explained: “John has a chance for Wednesday’s game. Let’s see tomorrow and after tomorrow.

“After the last match against Atletico I thought no chance. At this moment, I say maybe.”

With Terry and a number of other key players out, and with Gary Cahill named among the substitutes, Mouriinho selected Tomas Kalas, 20, at centre-back against Liverpool alongside Branislav Ivanovic.

And he was full of praise for the Czech youngster, who gave a commanding performance on his Premier League debut.

“It’s beautiful for him and not to be forgotten,” Mourinho said.

“Before the match we were laughing about it because big guys like Frank Lampard had their debuts in the Premier League against small teams. This kid’s was against Liverpool at Anfield.”
