Solanke scores as Chelsea youngsters draw with Tottenham

Dominic Solanke scored his first goal of the season as Chelsea’s Under-23s drew 2-2 with Tottenham.

Mason Mount gave the Blues the perfect start when he whipped in a brilliant free-kick from just outside the box after Spurs’ Anton Walkes’ handled a long ball over the top.

Mount then played in Ike Ugbo, who finished well but only after the assistant referee’s flag had gone up.

Tottenham ended the first half strongly and equalised six minutes before the break as Nathan Oduwa worked his way out of a tight space and crossed for Shayon Harrison, who angled a header beyond Blues keeper Bradley Collins.

Solanke’s goal came 10 minutes into the second half. Fikayo Tomori cut inside from the right, laid the ball off to Mukhtar Ali on the edge of the box and he slipped it to Solanke, who struck a firm left-footed strike into the far corner.

But Spurs levelled almost immediately, as Joe Pritchard’s corner was met by an excellent glancing header from Connor Ogilvie on the near corner of the six-yard box.

Both sides had chances towards the end of the game, with Ugbo denied by Spurs keeper Pau Lopez and Collins palming an Uduwa free-kick over the bar.

Chelsea though came close to winning it at the death, with Ugbo shooting narrowly wide on the turn.
