Brentford boss Dean Smith is seemingly not in the running to become Aston Villa manager, despite being touted as the early favourite for the job.
Thierry Henry appears in pole position to take over at Villa Park, with Celtic’s Brendan Rodgers also under consideration.
Former Arsenal star Henry has reportedly impressed the Villa hierarchy at an interview.
And former Chelsea captain John Terry has been lined up for a coaching role at Villa and could return there regardless of whether Henry gets the top job or not.
Terry captained Villa last season after joining on a free transfer from Chelsea but left in the summer following their failure to win promotion.
He has since been linked with a return to Chelsea in a coaching role and a newspaper story recently claimed that Terry had agreed return to Stamford Bridge to coach Blues’ development side.
