Sick Lampard likely to miss Cardiff match
Frank Lampard is likely to miss Chelsea’s final match of the season, while John Terry and Samuel Eto’o are also doubtful for the trip to Cardiff.
Manager Jose Mourinho said today that veteran midfielder Lampard, whose Blues contract expires this summer, is struggling with an illness.
Skipper Terry and striker Eto’o, whose contracts will also expire shortly, have picked up injuries in training.
Mourinho explained: “Frank Lampard is ill in bed. Samuel Eto’o was injured today in training and John Terry yesterday.
“They are little things but normally all of them are out for this game.”
While Terry is expected to sign a new deal at Stamford Bridge, Lampard has been tipped to leave – meaning he may have played his final match for Chelsea.
Mourinho has continually stated that he will recommend to the club’s board that out-of-contract trio Terry, Lampard and Ashley Cole should stay and believes they will.
He said: “I always do my reports to the club; written reports from the manager to the board.
“I do that during the season and with the final report at the end of the season where I try to have my point of view.”
Mourinho refused to be drawn specifically on the issue of Lampard’s future, but said: “In a few years maybe he will have a statue on the side, the same as Peter Osgood. He is one of the biggest players of this club.”
