Chelsea trio could be back for Liverpool clash

Pedro, Antonio Rudiger and Ruben Loftus-Cheek could be available to return to the Chelsea squad for Saturday’s game against Liverpool, Maurizio Sarri has said.

Speaking at a news conference on Friday afternoon, Blues boss Sarri said “the situation is better” with regard to the trio’s respective injury problems.

They trained with the rest of the Chelsea squad on Thursday and are due to be assessed before a decision is made on whether they are fit enough to be considered for this weekend’s game at Stamford Bridge.

Rudiger went off during the recent draw at West Ham, while Pedro has been out since suffering a shoulder injury during the final stages of the Europa League win against PAOK.

Asked whether Rudiger is set to return, Sarri said: “I don’t know. Yesterday he had training in the second part (of the session) with the team. We need to see the last training. There’s a possibility to recover.”

Loftus-Cheek, who has been overlooked by Sarri so far this season, would have been expected to feature in the Carabao Cup win against Liverpool but his injury ruled him out.

He too has since resumed training and could be available to be included in the squad for the Premier League match against the Reds.

“Pedro yesterday had the last part of the training with the team, like Rudiger and Loftus-Cheek. So we need to see the last training (session) and then we will decide,” Sarri said.

“They are almost ready, so the situation is better than three or four days ago.”

Sarri also explained that Andreas Christensen is not injured but struggled with a stomach ache during this week’s game at Anfield.
