Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has backed Marcos Alonso and Victor Moses – but says both can improve aspects of their game.
Alonso was outstanding as a wing-back for the Blues and has played as a left-back since Sarri took over and reverted to a back four.
The Spaniard has continued to make an impact and has been nominated for the Premier League player of the month award for August.
Nevertheless, Sarri believes Alonso needs to improve the defensive side of his game.
“He’s a very good player and can improve in the defensive phase,” Sarri said.
“He has physical qualities at the top level, so I think he can do more in the defensive phase, but I’m not worried.
“He’s a very good player in the offensive and defensive phases, but I think he can do more.”
While Alonso has kept his place, Moses has found himself on the fringes since Sarri dispensed with wing-backs.
But the Italian believes Moses is capable of re-establishing himself in a more attacking role.
“Now we are trying to let him play like a winger,” Sarri explained.
“We changed the position and in the new position he needs to improve, but it’s only a question of time.”
