Round-up: James out of U21 squad and Parker signs deal


Reece James has withdrawn from the England Under-21 squad because of injury and been replaced by Tariq Lamptey.

Chelsea right-back James, who has previously been troubled by ankle problems, was called up for two European Under-21 Championship qualifiers against Kosovo and Austria.


The extent of his injury is not yet known but former Chelsea youngster Lamptey has been drafted in.

The Hillingdon-born Lamptey, 19, left Stamford Bridge to join Brighton in January.

Chelsea can reach ‘new level’ – Werner

Timo Werner believes Chelsea can reach a “new level” as they look to close the gap on Premier League rivals Manchester City and Liverpool.

“The work with the manager recently has been really good,” Werner told Chelsea’s website.

“He’s been showing and explaining to the whole team, not just me, what we can do on the pitch and how to improve on last season.

“He’s been great to work with and he’s been discussing his plans for the future, and how we want to battle with teams like Man City and Liverpool.

“I think Chelsea is a big club and with this team that we have, I think we can reach a new level.”

New deal for Parker

Fulham boss Scott Parker has signed a new three-year contract. 

The new deal is Parker’s reward for steering the Whites back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

“I’m delighted to have signed a new deal which shows mutual faith and commitment, on both my side and the club’s,” he said.

Steven Sessegnon looks set to join Bristol City on loan from Fulham.

Several Championship clubs have expressed an interest in the 20-year-old, who is being allowed to leave Craven Cottage for the coming season in order for him to play first-team football.

The former Chelsea forward, 24, is among a number of attacking players Fulham have identified as a possible acquisition following the club’s return to the Premier League.

Barnes to join Hibs on loan

QPR: Loftus Road
Goalkeeper Dillon Barnes is joining Hibernian from QPR on a season-long loan.

Barnes, 24, moved to Rangers from Colchester United a year ago.

He has not made a first-team appearance since that surprise move and is currently behind Seny Dieng, Liam Kelly and Joe Lumley in the pecking order of QPR keepers.
