Redknapp: Blues cannot replace Lampard

Harry Redknapp insists his nephew Frank Lampard is irreplaceable at Chelsea and the club will make a huge mistake if they let him go.

There has been speculation about the England midfielder’s future as he is in the final year of his contract, with the Blues reportedly unwilling to offer him a new deal.

The same applies to Ashley Cole, who has been linked with several top European clubs.

“It is strange. Him and Ashley Cole are both the same – two fantastic players,” said Redknapp.

“They’ll have their choice of almost any club in England if they do get released, that’s for sure. They won’t be struggling.”

Redknapp believes Lampard will end up staying at Stamford Bridge, where the 34-year-old is closing in on Bobby Tambling’s long-standing goalscoring record.

“Personally I think it would be a mistake [if Chelsea let Lampard go] but it’s their decision,” said the QPR boss.

“You saw the other day that he’s still a top player – two goals at Everton to secure the 2-1 win.

“Where do you get a goalscoring midfielder like Frank? There’s not many around.

“I don’t think you can upgrade from Frank. I don’t know where you’re going to find a better attacking midfield player who can score more goals in the Premier League.

“Where are you going to find someone who can get forward, get in there and then has that knack of scoring?

“He’s got that knack of arriving at the right time at the right place. It’s an incredible gift he’s got.

“I don’t think you can replace that. There aren’t many around the world you’ll find that are as good as that.”
