Chelsea boss Di Matteo celebrates “incredible achievement”

Glory for Chelsea at the Nou Camp
Skipper Terry apologises for dismissal

Roberto Di Matteo insisted that his players should take the credit for Chelsea’s remarkable semi-final triumph against Barcelona.

Placed in interim charge with the Blues in crisis, Di Matteo has since led them to the finals of the Champions League and FA Cup – surely boosting his chances of being given the manager’s job on a permanent basis.

“It’s an incredible achievement by this group of players,” he declared.

“A lot of people had written us off. We didn’t expect to play with 10 men and it was more difficult than we expected, but it just shows you what we are made of.”

And the Italian stood by captain John Terry, who will miss the final after being sent off at the Nou Camp.

“He is a fantastic leader. Anybody can make a mistake in life,” Di Matteo said.

“Am I angry with him? No, I’m not. We’re all human beings and make mistakes.”
