‘Terrific’ Loftus-Cheek praised after Under-21 win

England Under-21 boss Aidy Boothroyd praised Ruben Loftus-Cheek after the Chelsea midfielder scored twice in a 4-0 win against Denmark.

Fulham striker Cauley Woodrow also scored for Boothroyd’s team in a one-sided game in Randers.

Boothroyd said: “He (Loftus-Cheek) was excellent. He was terrific, but the only reason he was terrific was because he had 10 other players on the pitch that worked really hard for him and got him the ball.

“He made some really good decisions and overall I think it was a terrific performance.”

Loftus-Cheek, 21, has started only four matches for Chelsea this season but showed no sign of rustiness against the Danes.

He said: “I really enjoyed it. I haven’t played much for my club so it is important for me to work hard and try to get my sharpness when I come away with England.”
