Nathan Ake has been drafted into the Chelsea squad ahead of Sunday’s game against Manchester United.
Boss Jose Mourinho sees the Dutch teenager as potential extra cover at left-back following Ryan Bertrand’s loan move to Aston Villa.
Chelsea have been discussing the possibility of Ake, 18, himself going out on loan to play first-team football.
However, for the time being he has stepped up from the Under-21 squad and Mourinho is confident Chelsea have enough options at left-back without Bertrand.
Mourinho explained: “Because Bertrand is leaving I’m bringing Ake into the squad because he is a player that can play there.
“In an emergency David Luiz or Branislav Ivanovic can play left-back. So we don’t have problems.”
