Mourinho: Torres has a future at Chelsea
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho insisted Fernando Torres was still part of his plans despite not even naming the £50m striker in the matchday squad for the 2-0 home win over Leicester.
The Spaniard has been heavily linked with a loan move away from Stamford Bridge after seemingly becoming the third-choice forward.
Torres was on the bench for 3-1 victory over Burnley in the opening game of the season on Monday, but Didier Drogba came on and the Blues legend also replaced Diego Costa against the Foxes.
Mourinho said: “There is no story with Nando. I want him. I want three strikers.
“He will play. He is a fantastic guy and fantastic professional. I decided to have a bench with a complete balance.”
Mourinho said his side have to plenty to work on after goals from Diego Costa and Eden Hazard secured the points.
They struggled to find their fluency before the break but played with far greater purpose in the second half to ease to victory.
“I told them that in the first half they were not playing well enough to win. The first half showed we clearly have a lot to improve,” Mourinho said.
“Leicester came with great defensive intensity, and we were a bit slow. We were slow moving the ball and slow thinking.
“We needed to change and we did. The second half we had compete control. I don’t forget they had a good chance at 0-0 but we had so many chances to score and deserved the victory.”
