Mourinho rules out late striker bid
Jose Mourinho has insisted that Chelsea will not be making a late bid to sign a striker.
The Blues boss has remained adamant that he has no plans to bring in a centre-forward during this month’s transfer window, which closes tonight.
And his comments are bound to increase speculation that he is eyeing a deal to sign England star Wayne Rooney from Manchester United this summer.
He was keen to capture Rooney last August and has been monitoring developments at United, where the player has been discussing a new contract.
“I’ve been saying for a couple of months that there would be nothing in January,” Mourinho said.
“I think many people don’t understand why, but I think in the summer they will understand why we didn’t do it.
“We know what we want and we don’t want things like emergency plans – that is not our profile now.
“We are waiting until the summer to do the right thing and we know what we intend to do.”
