Mourinho: It’s time for Demba
Jose Mourinho says the time is right to recall Demba Ba to the Chelsea side.
The Blues will be without striker Fernando Torres for a number of weeks after he suffered a knee injury during Sunday’s win against Manchester United.
But Mourinho, whose team face Stoke in the FA Cup this weekend, insists Ba deserves another chance to show what he can do.
And the Chelsea boss has revealed that he considered starting with Ba against United after he impressed in training.
Mourinho said: “It’s time for Demba. He has had a fantastic week and it was very difficult for me to leave him out, because he’s worked very well.”
In the end, Eto’o got the nod against United and justified the decision by scoring a hat-trick before being taken off to a standing ovation when replaced by Torres late on.
“Fernando is very dangerous with space, he’s more powerful than Samuel, but I didn’t think Man United were coming here to give me spaces behind their defensive line – they came here to be compact,” Mourinho explained.
“I feel Samuel is a player with more technical ability and is better in small spaces. My feeling was that Samuel was more adaptive.”
