Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has played down his role in Fernando Torres’ recent performances.
The rejuvenated striker has impressed since Mourinho returned as Blues boss and recovered after a bad miss against Manchester City on Sunday, setting up his team’s first goal and scoring late winner.
Having sat out the midweek Capital One Cup victory against Arsenal, Torres is set to return for this weekend’s game at Newcastle.
And Mourinho is confident the Spaniard can maintain his excellent form.
“I did nothing. I did what I always do in trying to get the best out of the players, but in a very normal way,” Mourinho said.
“Fernando is responsible for his self-motivation and his commitment and the way he is working every day.
“I want Fernando to be stable and not worried about proving himself or worried about scoring or not scoring. Against Newcastle he just needs to work for the team.”
Chelsea have no new injury concerns for the trip to St James’ Park and head there full of confidence having won six matches in row.
“We won every match in October and we had to play Schalke and Arsenal away and Man City at home, so it was not an easy month,” Mourinho added.
“Now we go to Newcastle, which is one of the most difficult games in the whole season. It is very difficult to play there but we are going to try.”
