Oscar praised after Chelsea’s victory
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho praised the impact of Oscar after the Brazilian starred in the 3-0 win over Aston Villa.
The 23-year-old opened the scoring with only his third league goal of 2014 as the Blues maintained their three-point lead at the top of the table.
On Wednesday, Oscar hit the winner in the Capital One Cup win against Bolton and Mourinho was impressed by his response to being given another start.
The Chelsea manager said: “He played well against Bolton. I decided to play him again, in spite of only three matches in the team [so far this season] because he needs the confidence that comes with matches.
“His performance was good. He was important in our attacking play. The connection between him and Nemanja Matic was good and his connection between him and the attacking players was good also.”
The comfortable victory maintained Chelsea’s unbeaten start to the season.
But Mourinho warned against casting his side as title favourites after just seven games of the campaign.
He said: “It’s too early. We have a lead of three points which gives us a guarantee that on the next weekend we will still be top of the league. It’s a little bit of a space that gives you a good feeling.
“But everyone is going to lose points. No-one thinks Chelsea will keep this run going for 10, 15, 20 matches. In this league it is always possible for a top team to lose points.
“We are not perfect. We have a lot to improve in every area of our game. We know we have to get points every game, especially at home.
“We have won all three at home, we’re playing well and scoring goals so we’re happy.”
