Frank Lampard faces a spell on the sidelines after being forced off at half-time during Chelsea’s win over Liverpool on Sunday.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho said the England midfielder, 35, suffered a muscle injury and looks likely to miss the New Year’s Day visit to Southampton.
He said: “Lampard has a muscle injury so you can forget him for a few moments. It’s too early to say [how long he’ll be out].”
Branislav Ivanovic was also withdrawn against Liverpool with a knee complaint but Mourinho was relaxed about the Serb’s fitness.
He said: “It was a painful thing but I don’t think it’s a big thing.”
