Middlesbrough have confirmed they are hopeful of signing Chelsea youngster Lewis Baker on loan.
Boss Garry Monk said Baker, 22, was on their shortlist to replace midfielder Marten de Roon, who was sold to Atalanta on Thursday.
“He’s a target and one of many that we’ve had throughout the summer months,” said Monk.
“We’ll see where that will get to within the coming days.”
Baker spent last season on loan at Vitesse in the Netherlands, scoring 10 goals in 33 appearances, and helped England to the semi-finals of the European Under-21s Championships this summer.
