Nemanja Matic says playing alongside Cesc Fabregas in Chelsea’s midfield is “easy” .
Matic impressed hugely after being re-signed from Benfica last season and has been even better this term, with the Serbian and summer signing Fabregas playing key roles in the Blues’ rise to the top of the Premier League.
“I thought before that Cesc was a great player,” Matic said.
“It is very easy to play with him. I feel very good when I play with him. He’s always available when I have the ball and in my opinion he is one of the most important players for us at the moment.”
Fabregas scored his first Premier League for the Blues against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
But the Spaniard’s seven assists so far have been vital in the club’s unbeaten start to the season.
Matic added: “To have Cesc next to me is very important. I can be focused on my job and do what the coach asks from me.
“In the changing room the atmosphere is very good and for me this is very important and one of the reasons we are first.”
Chelsea will be looking to continue their fine form when they face Maribor in the Champions League at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.
Jose Mourinho’s side will be overwhelming favourites and a victory would leave them on seven points and in a commanding position at the top of Group G.
But Matic warned: “We know Maribor are a very good team, very compact and didn’t lose against Sporting and Schalke.
“We have to be careful with them and expect a hard game. They can be dangerous.”
