Marin ‘didn’t fancy it’ says Brentford star
Brentford defender Shaleum Logan believes Chelsea’s Marko Marin “didn’t fancy” Sunday’s frenetic FA Cup clash at Griffin Park.
Logan, predominantly a right-back, filled in for the suspended Jake Bidwell on the left and produced an impressive performance.
He and Bees playmaker Harry Forrester got the better of the hapless Marin – who was hauled off at half-time – and an exposed Branislav Ivanovic.
“I don’t know much about Marin but he really didn’t fancy it at all,” Logan told West London Sport.
“The way he played really helped me and Harry cause problems down that left-hand side. He didn’t look up for it – that’s probably why he came off at half-time.
“I watch Ivanovic week in, week out on Match of the Day and I knew he liked to bomb forward but we didn’t let him.
“I know I’m a quick player so in a 50/50 race with him for the ball I always fancied myself. Me and Harry had a few chances to get in behind him in the space and we did that.
“Every Brentford player on that pitch matched every Chelsea player in every way, maybe even bettered them, and I felt we deserved to win the game, I really do.”
Brentford settled after a shaky opening few minutes – and Logan admits nerves were jangling early in the game.
“I’m not going to lie, I had jelly legs in the warm-up looking over at them,” he said.
“It was a little bit overawing after seeing the unbelievable things the likes of Juan Mata, Ashley Cole and John Terry do – they’re world class players.
“So for us to put out a performance like that was unbelievable and now we have a great trip to Stamford Bridge for the replay to look forward to.
“We’ve just got to put in another performance like that and you never know.”
