Maresca expects Lavia and Guiu to return this season

Enzo Maresca expects Romeo Lavia and Marc Guiu to return for Chelsea before the end of the season but has confirmed Wesley Fofana will miss the rest of the campaign.

Fofana, plagued by injuries since his 2022 move from Leicester, recently underwent hamstring surgery.

Lavia has also been troubled by injuries since being signed and has not featured since the 1-0 defeat by Arsenal last month.

“We will support both,” said head coach Maresca at a news conference on the eve of the Blues’  Uefa Conference League quarter-final first leg away to Legia Warsaw.

“They are young. They are human beings, and they are struggling for different reasons.

“Wes will be out for the rest of the season. Hopefully we can get Romeo back soon. He looks quite good. He can be back soon.”

Striker Guiu has not played since February but a specialist has given a positive update.

Maresca explained: “Marc, we have good news today, that he looks good and is quite better. He can be back before the season finishes.”
