David Luiz has held contract talks with Chelsea in the last few days, Maurizio Sarri has confirmed.
Luiz’s current deal at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of the season and there has been speculation over his future.
The Brazilian recently turned 32 and Chelsea have a policy of not offering longer than one-year contracts to players over the age of 30.
Speaking after Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of the Europa League semi-final, Blues head coach Sarri said he was unsure how a meeting between Luiz and club officials had gone.
Sarri said: “I know that he had a meeting four or five days ago but then my mind was on this match and I didn’t ask him the result (of the meeting).”
Sarri also stood by his decision not to start with Eden Hazard in Frankfurt.
