The midfielder only recently returned for pre-season training with Chelsea, having been given an extended break following his involvement for England at this summer’s World Cup.
Speaking at a media conference on Friday, new head coach Sarri hinted that David Luiz, who was out of favour under former boss Antonio Conte, could have a role to play.
But it is unclear whether Loftus-Cheek, who spent last season on loan at Crystal Palace, will finally be given a run in the Chelsea’s side.
Sarri said: “I am very happy with David for his attitude – very happy. I think David will be very important for the team and also for me.
“Loftus-Cheek I have just seen for three or four training (sessions), so we will have to wait.”
The Times newspaper reported on Friday that Loftus-Cheek, 22, plans to seek a loan move to the Continent, where the transfer window will be open until the end of the month, if he is overlooked by Sarri at the start of the season.
The window for moves to Premier League clubs closes next Thursday.
Meanwhile, Sarri says he is “very confident” Willian will stay at Chelsea despite speculation over the Brazilian’s future.
