Leicester v Chelsea player ratings

Chelsea’s miserable season continued with a defeat against Leicester. Here’s how we rated the Blues players at the King Power Stadium.

Thibaut Courtois: 6
There was nothing he could do about Leicester’s two goals. Handled high crosses well.

Branislav Ivanovic: 6
Continues to struggle, but he gave wholehearted effort and was one of only three Blues players, along with Thibaut Courtois and Cesar Azpilicueta, to go to salute the away fans after the game.

Kurt Zouma: 6
Caught out for Jamie Vardy’s goal but was not alone in looking uneasy at times when confronted by the Foxes’ dynamic breaks.

John Terry: 6
Lucky not to be booked for a first-half foul on Riyad Mahrez and often looked exposed for pace. Was also found wanting for Vardy’s first-half goal. Hooked by Jose Mourinho after 53 minutes.

Cesar Azpilicueta: 6
Arguably the best Blues defender on the night. Even so, he was bamboozled by the brilliance of Mahrez for the second goal

Ramires: 5
Anonymous until the second-half rally, when he finally got involved. Leicester mostly managed to bypass him.

Nemanja Matic: 6
Plenty of effort and kept going right to the end, even if he is still not quite able to summon the all-conquering midfield displays of last season.

Willian: 6
For once, Chelsea’s Mr Dependable was unable to paper over the cracks. Struggled to create openings against Leicester’s well marshalled banks of four.

Oscar: 7
Again the Brazilian failed to shine. Seems to be locked into a pattern of endeavour at the expense of creativity.

Eden Hazard: 5
Hobbled off after half an hour after being clattered in the thigh by Vardy. Among those who went missing during a wretched opening half for the visitors.

Diego Costa: 6
Plenty of eagerness, as there was against Porto. Robert Huth subdued him effectively but he almost scored after a great pass from Cesc Fabregas.

Pedro: 6
Got into some dangerous positions during Chelsea’s best second-half moments and his fine cross set up Loic Remy’s goal. But one shot over the bar summed up a frustrating evening.

Cesc Fabregas: 7
Made a big difference after coming on for Terry early in the second half. Offered more guile and almost laid on a goal for Costa with an exquisite chip.

Loic Remy: 7
Nimble and busy after coming on for Oscar just past the hour. Powered home a close-range header which at least gave his side hope.
