Tammy Abraham’s injury-time goal meant Chelsea’s youngsters began their Under-21 Premier League campaign with a 1-0 victory at Liverpool.
The prolific striker fired into the corner of the net after being set up by Charley Musonda.
Abraham scored shortly after Connor Randall missed a chance for the hosts when he dragged a shot wide.
Liverpool had almost taken a first-half lead with a fine effort from Cameron Brannagan that struck the bar.
The Under-21s’ win came 24 hours after Chelsea’s Under-18s began their season with 4-1 triumph at Norwich, where Ike Ugbo scored a hat-trick.
