Frank Lampard says he has no doubt Mason Mount can make a name for himself as a goalscoring midfielder for Chelsea.
Mount has been compared to Blues boss Lampard – Chelsea’s all-time record goalscorer – and impressed last season on loan at Derby County.
He started at Manchester United on Sunday but was criticised by former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho after the 4-0 defeat.
Lampard, though, is convinced Mount has what it takes to be a top-class player.
“He has a fantastic attitude. He has incredible energy and work ethic with and without the ball, which is something that is pivotal to how I want my team to play,” Lampard said.
“He has fantastic talent – to be part of possession, make assists and to score goals.
“And I think the scoring goals thing is something that he really will step up levels with as his game improves.
“I’m a huge fan of his. He’s part of the first-team squad and I still think there’s so much more to come from him.”
Lampard’s side face Champions League winners Liverpool for the Super Cup on Wednesday evening.
Willian will be among the substitutes and could play some part following his recent injury.
The fitness of N’Golo Kante and Antonio Rudiger will be assessed ahead of the game in Istanbul.
