Lampard confirms injured Ziyech will miss Brighton game

Frank Lampard has confirmed that Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell will both miss Chelsea’s opening game of the Premier League season against Brighton on Monday.




Winger Ziyech was injured in the recent friendly against Brighton and England left-back Chilwell was not fully fit when he joined from Leicester City.

Blues boss Lampard said: “Hakim injured his knee against Brighton and is not fit. We hope it’s a matter of a couple of weeks. We have to see.

“Ben is working but won’t be fit, but going in the right direction.”

And veteran defender Thiago Silva is also unlikely to feature.

“Thiago is in London but is not training with us until the weekend,” Lampard explained.

Meanwhile, Christian Pulisic and Cesar Azpilicueta are expected to be available after recovering from hamstring problems.
