Jose predicts more trophies for ‘new team’
Jose Mourinho predicted his Chelsea side would go on to win more silverware after they beat Tottenham in the Capital One Cup final.
The Blues boss, reflecting on a 2-0 win and his first trophy since returning to Stamford Bridge in 2013, said the day had reminded him of his hunger to win things with Chelsea.
Mourinho said: “Before the game I had the same feelings as I did before my first final. I feel like a kid but 52 years old.
“For the club, it’s one more cup but it’s the first one for a new team.
“You have John Terry, Petr Cech and Didier Drogba [from Mourinho’s first spell] but after that everyone belongs to a new team.”
Mourinho revealed behind-the-scenes roles played by suspended midfielder Nemanja Matic, who made a speech to the players before the game, and owner Roman Abramovich – who celebrated in the dressing room afterwards.
But he jokingly rebuked assistant coach Silvino Louro for daring to celebrate Liverpool’s win over Chelsea’s title rivals Manchester City earlier in the day.
Mourinho said: “I did not want any reaction. No happiness because Liverpool won or sadness if Man City equalised.
“Then from the back of the bus, Silvio jumped up! I couldn’t believe it. One of my own coaches broke the rule.”
