QPR manager Mark Hughes has revealed his frustration at the timing of John Terry’s trial.
Chelsea defender Terry is alleged to have made racist comments towards Rangers’ Anton Ferdinand during October’s league match at Loftus Road.
Terry strongly denies doing so and has vowed to prove his innocence. A not guilty plea was entered on his behalf at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
The England captain will stand trial on 9 July – after the European Championships and during pre-season, potentially affecting QPR’s preparations for the new campaign.
“From my point of view they’re making a decision that obviously impacts on one of our players,” said Hughes.
“Anton is involved in the case and they’ve now been given a date that’s smack bang in the middle of pre-season. That’s going to impact on his preparations for a new season.
“It probably doesn’t impact on John Terry’s pre-season because he’ll get a rest after the Euros. It’s during his down time but not Anton’s.”
