Callum Hudson-Odoi will have an operation after suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon, Chelsea have confirmed.
The teenager limped off near the end of the first half of Monday’s 2-2 draw with Burnley at Stamford Bridge.
A ruptured Achilles is generally regarded as one of the worst injuries players can suffer and it can often sideline them for long periods.
Chelsea announced on Tuesday that Hudson-Odoi, 18, was due to have surgery later that evening.
The injury is a big blow for the winger, who recently made his Premier League and England debuts and is hugely popular among Blues fans.
His contract expires next year and Chelsea, who rejected offers for him from Bayern Munich in January, are keen for him to sign a new deal,
