Pulisic has future at Chelsea, says Tuchel

Christian Pulisic of Chelsea

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has insisted that Christian Pulisic is part of his long-term plans.

The American has been plagued by injuries since his arrival at Stamford Bridge – and is now nursing a calf issue.

Pulisic, who previously played under Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund, has not started a league game since the German took over at Chelsea.

And there have been reports this week that he could leave in the summer.

Asked if Pulisic has a future at the club, Tuchel said: “Yes. It’s not only my point of view, but for me clearly yes.

“Chelsea bought Christian for a reason; for his quality and potential. It’s our job to bring out the best in him.

“He proved in many weeks that he has the level to be a regular Chelsea player and to have a big impact at this club.

“It’s a challenge now to hold this level and to improve. We are not concerned. We are not worried.”

Pulisic is set to miss Saturday’s game against Southampton along with Thiago Silva, who is still recovering from a thigh injury.

Tuchel explained: “He (Pulisic) stopped training yesterday before it becomes an injury, so I would no say that it’s an injury – it’s a risk management to not be injured that relates to his history of having injuries.

“The main thing for Christian is to stay positive, keep the head up and be ready because he can have a big impact when he starts.

“There are absolutely no decisions made for the summer. There’s time for that in the moment and it’s not the moment now. Today there is no need to think about that.”
