Spurs should not ‘complicate’ final – Jose
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says he hopes Tottenham’s players will not “complicate” Sunday’s Capital One Cup final for the officials.
Mourinho stopped short of directly accusing any Spurs players in his pre-match news conference, but talked generally about his desire for a game that was easy to officate.
“I believe all three teams [Chelsea, Tottenham and officials] will go with the same ambition, to do well,” Mourinho said.
“Hopefully even the players that like to complicate things, they will try to make the final a big final.”
Mourinho also referred to “players that dive, looking for fouls” and “dive, looking for cards”.
And he added: “Every two to three matches, there is simulating and pretending they are under aggression.
“We are in the same industry in the same country, so you don’t need me to say any names.”
The Portuguese said his entire focus was on the final at Wembley, describing it as game Chelsea “have to win”.
“I just think about the moment – only this game. We have a final to win and nothing else matters,” said Mourinho.
“I don’t think if we win the cup final we will win the league, or if we lose it we will lose the league.”
And he said that the 5-3 defeat against Spurs on New Year’s Day will have little impact on how the Premier League leaders approach the game.
“After 25 minutes we can be 2-0 up,” Mourinho said, referring to a penalty he felt should have been awarded when Jan Vertonghen handled in the area.
“After that we made mistakes and we made defensive mistake and every time we got punished with a goal.
“Obviously I have that game to try to take my conclusions but it is difficult to analyse a game when you started so well.”
