Schürrle to miss Germany matches

Chelsea’s André Schürrle will miss Germany’s matches against Gibraltar and Spain because of a recent illness.

Schurrle withdrew from his country’s squad for their Euro 2016 qualifiers last month because of virus and is still struggling to regain his fitness.

Germany boss Joachim Löw has not called up a replacement for Schurrle, who will also miss an award ceremony on Monday at the German Presidency to honour the team’s World Cup triumph earlier this year.

In a statement, the German Football Association (DFB) explained: “Schürrle suffered a persistent infection in October and could not train regularly.

“It was agreed with Joachim Löw that he stays in London and trains individually to optimise his fitness.”

Germany play Gibralter in a qualifier on Friday and then face the Spanish in a friendly next week.

Chelsea are next in action on 22 November, when they host West Brom.
