Harry thought Hazard would join Spurs
Harry Redknapp has admitted he believed Eden Hazard would sign for Tottenham prior to the Belgian’s big-money move to Chelsea.
Redknapp tried to capture him from Lille while Spurs manager after the player was recommended by former Chelsea star Joe Cole, who played alongside Hazard at the French club.
And the QPR boss, whose team face the Blues at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, thought at one stage Hazard was heading to White Hart Lane.
“Yes, he was dead keen to come. We just couldn’t get it over the line, said Redknapp.
“Joe Cole said to me he thought he was the best player he’d ever played with. He’s a fantastic talent and a great player.
“I spent four hours in a hotel talking to him about coming to Tottenham. He went to Chelsea not long after.”
Diego Costa has been passed fit to return to the Chelsea side for this weekend’s game, while Rangers are still without Joey Barton, Jordon Mutch and Nedum Onuoha.
