Newcastle 1 Chelsea 2

Chelsea dramatically maintained their 100% record under Maurizio Sarri courtesy of DeAndre Yedlin’s late own goal.

After Eden Hazard’s 77th-minute penalty broke the deadlock, Joselu headed Newcastle level.

But Chelsea hit back to make it three wins from three games under boss Sarri.

Olivier Giroud headed Willian’s 87th-minute free-kick towards Marcos Alonso, whose cross-shot was turned into his own net by Yedlin.

Hazard, back in the starting line-up, had calmly slotted home from the spot after Alonso was controversially adjudged to have been fouled by Fabian Schär, who appeared to win the ball.

Hazard was involved in the build up to the penalty being awarded, cleverly exchanging passes with Alonso, who went down under Schär’s challenge.

The opener came a couple of minutes after Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger hit the bar with a thunderous 30-yard strike.

Chelsea had dominated possession but been frustrated by Newcastle’s resolute defending before finally going ahead.

There was controversy involved in Newcastle’s goal as well.

Yedlin appeared to elbow Giroud before crossing for Joselu to head home.

However, Yedlin then gave away the free-kick which led to Chelsea’s winner.
