Jose Mourinho said he wanted more goals from Willian after the Brazilian scored Chelsea’s third in a resounding victory against Stoke.
The Blues moved back to the top of the table and the hard-working Willian’s 73rd-minute strike was his third goal since moving to Stamford Bridge from Anzhi Makhachkala last summer.
“The goal was really good and he’s a good player who gives so much to the team – and not just in possession,” said Mourinho.
“He is adapting so well and I want to see him score more goals. He has to do that in his second season in the Premier League.”
Chelsea boss Mourinho also praised January signing Mohamed Salah, who marked his first start for the club by firing them ahead in the first half.
The Portuguese said: “We brought in a kid from a different habitat – an Egyptian playing in Switzerland – and we knew the kid was going to need time.
“Today was his first chance to play and you could feel immediately there is a connection between him and the crowd. They like him. They like his style of play.
“Next year with Eden Hazard, Oscar, Willian, Salah – these young guys will have more experience and more strength. There is a good future for them.”
After back-to-back defeats, Mourinho felt the result was the perfect morale-booster ahead of next week’s second-leg clash with Paris St Germain.
Their 3-1 first-leg loss in France means they need to produce a stirring comeback at the Bridge if they are to reach the Champions League semi-finals.
And Mourinho declared: “It’s one thing to start the [PSG] match after another defeat and another thing to start it after a victory.
“We played well, especially in the first half. I liked very much how we played for 25 to 30 minutes in the first half.
“In the second half, with the second goal, the match was under control and we deserved the three points.”
