Jose Mourinho has backed Cesc Fabregas, insisting the Spaniard has shown commitment despite some below-par displays for Chelsea this season.
Fabregas was outstanding for Mourinho’s side as they won the Premier League title last term.
But he is one of several Chelsea players who has struggled for form in recent months.
“I think he’s the same as the team. Last season the team was fantastic and he was fantastic,” said Blues boss Mourinho.
“He had a huge responsibility in the quality of the team last season and was fundamental this season.
“I think he is at the same level as the team, which is not playing especially well. When a team is not playing especially well it is difficult for players to.
“I don’t see Cesc as being different from the team. What I see is that when he is on the pitch the commitment is there.
“He is never afraid to have the ball and make a mistake and is always trying. I completely trust him.”
Meanwhile, Mourinho has dismissed speculation linking him with possible return to Real Madrid.
