Ruben Loftus-Cheek is optimistic he can overcome his persistent back problems.
The Chelsea midfielder, 23, has been plagued by back trouble, making it even more of a challenge to establish himself as a first-team regular at Stamford Bridge.
Boss Maurizio Sarri has suggested that the problem might be something Loftus-Cheek has to manage for the rest of his career.
But the Loftus-Cheek does not believe that will be the case.
Speaking at a news conference on the eve of Chelsea’s Europa League semi-final second leg against Eintracht Frankfurt, he said: “I have had lower-back spasms since 16-17 until now.
“It’s something I’ve had to deal with and manage with the physios as much as I can.
“It has hindered me a lot. But over the years, learning about my body, with the physios we’ve come up with a routine to keep it at bay.
“I don’t think it’s something I’ll have to suffer for the rest of my career. I don’t think so.
“I’m feeling really good now – the best I’ve felt. I haven’t felt a twinge in my back for weeks now, so it’s looking really good.”
Loftus-Cheek was coy when asked if he could be in line for a contract extension at Chelsea – there have been reports that he is discussing a new deal.
However, having previously suggested his future is likely to lie elsewhere if he was not given first-team football, the England international made it clear he is now happy to stay.
He said: “I’m not sure (about a new contract). I’m not thinking about that right now. I think it’s important for me to focus on playing.
“This is the most I’ve played, so it’s looking good for me. There’s no reason why I should be thinking about leaving Chelsea.”
