Abraham ‘OK’ despite picking up another knock
Frank Lampard does not believe a knock Tammy Abraham picked up towards the end of Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Aston Villa is a cause for concern.
Abraham, who took a bang to the hip against Valencia and missed Saturday’s home defeat by West Ham, was passed fit to return against Villa.
The striker had to be replaced by Michy Batshuayi for the final few minutes but the initial indications were that the problem is not serious.
“It doesn’t seem too bad in there (the dressing room), so I’m presuming he’s OK,” Blues boss Lampard said.
Abraham showed how much he was missed at the weekend.
He put Chelsea ahead at Stamford Bridge, where Trezeguet equalised for the visitors shortly before the interval and Mason Mount restored the lead with a superb strike early in the second half.
Lampard said: “Tammy’s near the top of the goalscoring charts and is showing his all-round game.
“He’s a personality that is growing in that dressing room every day with his enthusiasm and his will to win.
“Of course when a player’s on such a good run and they come out of the team it’s normal that you can miss them. Today he came straight back into the team where he left off.
“In terms of the team I saw, it was the team I want to see. Against West Ham it wasn’t.
“We were by far the better team and created a lot of chances, which has been a regular story of our season. I thought we played really well the whole game.
“The West Ham game was a lesson for us and today we were back to what we are.”
